I thought this year would be different. Landry has been talking about Santa and really getting into the Christmas Traditions. He has been looking at the Toys-R-Us and Target toy books for weeks now. Has even circled what he wants a million times.
So- Kyle had Monday off this week. We decided we would take the boys to Bass Pro Shop again this year to get their free picture with Santa. We went last year and had a great time (set aside the screaming and crying during our "visit" with Santa.) So- we got the boys all decked out in their matching shirts (you know- that stuff you hated as a kid, but make mandatory as a parent.) Landry even grabbed his toy book to bring along and show Santa exactly what he wanted. Even walking into Bass Pro....we saw Santa sitting from afar....and Landry was still gung-ho to meet the jolly man.
All that came to a halt though when it was our turn. Gavin was having no part of it....again! He was that way last year, still never even talks about Santa this year, and definitely was not amused we sat him down besides the big man. Landry just froze up. He didn't cry, but he wasn't putting his little butt cheeks anywhere near the lap of Santa. He clinged on to my legs like I was about to leave him for life! We got the little elf helper lady to take a quick snapshot, and done! Good thing I had my thinking cap on that morning and told Kyle to some what dress up.....you never know if we have to be in the picture. At least we have this for the memory book:
Now...come take a walk with me down memory lane! You just discovered our 2010 Santa picture. Let's look back on the past.....
2009 (notice....parents and kids in exact same position...hum!)
2008....
2007 (this was the only year our child was some what calm....and ps....I think that Santa may have had too much eggnog!!!!)
Anyway...I'll leave you with a funny little story about our friend Ole' St Nick. When we first arrived at Bass Pro Shop on Monday, we saw Santa sitting in his chair. But- he quickly got up and left. The friendly little Elf came over to let us all know, it would be 30 minutes before they opened the line again. Then, without the children in ears reach....he proceeded to tell us that they had to call in the "back up" Santa. The "real" Santa (and he did look real with his authentic beard and all) was throwing up and had the squirts.....YES...he told us he had diarrhea. Um- little Elf man...a little too much info. But- he let us know they didn't want any children getting sick (um Thank You Bass Pro) so they had to call in the resort. I do believe the "resort" came straight from cashier line #2. He was very young and really didn't know what he was doing. But, none the less he did his job of taking pictures and making kids smile...or cry! Could you imagine though.....thinking you are going to work to check people out for the day, and instead you get thrown in the "Big Seat." :)
Don't you just love the holidays!!!!
